Questions and Answers on Solar Pool Heating Las Vegas

Where does the solar collector need to be located?

For the most sun to hit your solar collector and provide year round solar pool heating, you will want the solar collector to be on an east, west or south facing roof or a flat roof. The roof generally needs to not be shaded mid day. With correct placement of your solar collector, you can extend your swimming season with solar pool heating. If a roof with proper placement is not available, the solar collector can be placed on the ground on a rack.

What amount of sunlight must hit the solar collector each day in order for my solar pool heater to be functional?

You only need the middle six hours of the day for solar pool heating. Depending on the location of your solar collector you will get more or less sunlight. The more sunlight, the faster the solar pool heating will be effected.

Who is licensed to install solar pool heating?

Celestial Solar & Water Systems, Inc. is is the sole Factory Authorized Distributor in Southern Nevada for the iSwim Solar Pool Heating Panels. ISwim has more than 25 years of outstanding manufacturing and performance history. Solar Pool Heating Las Vegas can help to triple your comfortable swimming season by heating your pools with solar panels.

How does the ISwim solar panel work?

iSwim Headers are injection molded directly over the top of the absorber surface, creating a one piece uni-body collector. Traditionally, headers are welded directly to the absorber by melting both plastic surfaces and pressing them together. This outdated method of welding leads to weakness in durability.

iSwim's unique header anchoring system enables your solar collector array to be mounted more securely into roof rafters rather than the roof decking. Each collector is cradled in a manner that allows for stress-free natural expansion and contraction of the array.

Fluted tubes have multiple ridges all along their outer surface which increase the surface area of the tubes, allowing them to collect more of the sun's energy. So naturally, iSwim absorbs more heat than a smooth, non-fluted, collector.

For further anchoring, iSwim uses a unique strap anchor strap that spands the entire array providing additional wind load strength. Based on iSwim's exclusive design, it is the only solid surface collector that can be anchored into the roof rafters at every point, enabling the most secure installation.

iSwim's overmolded header not only creates a superior bond, it also eliminates restrictions of water flow as the water from the header through the absorber surface. With no restrictions, the water flows uninhibited through the solar collector and back into your pool, producing a more efficient solar system.

iSwim collectors feature interlocking, flexible expansion joints every 6 inches across the 4 foot width of the absorber that further allow natural expansion and contraction, eliminating buckling and binding stresses caused by temperature variences between collector absorber sections.

Do i need an automatic comfort controller?

Yes, if it is important to swim from mid September through mid May. The automatic control unit senses the changes in both sunlight and water temperatures and diverts water to the collectors when solar energy is available and desired to maintain pool temperature. The system functions without the use of any additional electrical energy.

How large a solar pool heating system do i need?

Generally speaking, you will get a 3oF rise from each 20% of the pool surface area that you put up on equal area of solar pool collectors. The size of your pool (in square feet) will determine how many solar collectors or solar panels you will need to make your swimming pool to a comfortable temperature during the cooler months.

Why is pool surface area used instead of the number of gallons in the pool?

Because 90% of all heat lost from a pool is from surface evaporation.
